NAGARAJAN'S WEBPAGE FOR BEGINNER'S TROPICAL FISH AQUARIUM

CHLORAMINE-T

As chloramine-T dissolves it slowly breaks down to produce hypochlorous acid (HOCl), which in turn releases chlorine and oxygen. Chloramine T kills bacteria which infect and kill fish. Bacterial gill disease and infectious trematodes (FLUKES) are eradicated.

It breaks down fairly rapidly and treatments can be repeated on a daily basis without the need for major water changes. As with most treatments, it is advisable to by-pass the filter during treatments, although nitrifying bacteria seem to be fairly tolerant of of this treatment.

Chloramine T is a pale powder which is powerful against bacterial and parasitic infections. Complete, written dosing recommendations are always enclosed with the medicine.

If used at too high a dose, Chloramine T can "burn" the fishes' skin. It can kill beneficial filter bacteria so users are expected to bypass treated-water flow around their filters.
